Smile Tone’s Orofacial Release combines various techniques to address orofacial tension, pain, imbalances, restrictions, dysfunction and discomfort.  Collectively, these techniques work synergistically to address different aspects of the orofacial area.

Orofacial Release can restore function; release muscle and fascial restrictions; alleviate pain and discomfort; improve circulation and muscle tone; and balance and relaxation in the craniosacral system. By incorporating these approaches, the Orofacial Release aims to provide comprehensive relief and promote overall well-being.

Each method is used for specific reasons and each patient will have a different treatment protocol, depending on their needs. This will be assessed that the initial appointment.

The Orofacial Release uses a variation of:

  1. Neurofascial Release
  2. NeoLifting Facial Massage
  3. Biodynamic  Craniosacral Release.

Neurofascial release focuses on releasing tension in the fascia, which is a type of connective tissue that surrounds muscles, bones, blood vessels, nerves, organs and it’s even in the brain. By applying gentle pressure and stretching techniques, neurofascial release aims to restore the natural movement and flexibility of the fascia of the face, jaw and oral cavity, reducing tension and promoting overall relaxation in the orofacial region. This technique mainly focuses on the skeletal muscles connected to the jaw.

NeoLifting (including Buccal massage) is a specialised facial massage technique that focuses mainly on the facial (mimic) muscles and superficial fascia of the face and neck.  It is performed outside and inside the mouth mostly focusing on the facial muscles (mimic muscles).  It can have a 'lifting' effect of the tissues.

NeoLifting helps to restore facial posture, enables metabolism and tissue nourishment, calms down the nervous system, improves blood circulation and lymphatic drainage, increases the microcirculation in the subcutaneous adipose tissue, normalizes cellular respiration, activates metabolism and tissue nourishment improving the skin trophic.

The technique incorporates a combination of gentle strokes, kneading, and acupressure to improve blood flow and lymphatic drainage, which can promote detoxification and reduce puffiness; improve muscle tone, increase circulation, and stimulate collagen production, which can enhance the firmness and elasticity of the skin; relieve blockages, reduce muscle tension, and promote overall relaxation. encourage the lymphatic system to eliminate toxins and waste products from the tissues.

NeoLifting facial technique not only addresses the physical aspects of the face but also has potential benefits for emotional well-being.  We know that our facial expressions and the facial muscle movements indicate how we feel.  By restoring balance and function and releasing neuromyofascial tension, it can have a positive effect on our mood.

Biodynamic Craniosacral Release is a therapeutic approach that focuses on the craniosacral system, which includes the membranes, cerebrospinal fluid, and the bones of the skull, face, sacrum and spine. The technique is based on the understanding that the craniosacral system has its own inherent rhythmic movements and that any restrictions or imbalances in this system can impact the overall health and functioning of the nervous system.

During a biodynamic craniosacral release session, the practitioner uses a very light touch and subtle manipulations to assess the craniosacral system and identify areas of restriction or imbalance. The practitioner then applies light pressure or holds specific points to encourage the release of these restrictions, allowing the system to return to its natural state of balance and optimal functioning.

By releasing restrictions in the craniosacral system, biodynamic craniosacral release helps to facilitate the proper flow and circulation of cerebrospinal fluid. This fluid acts as a cushion and nourishing medium for the brain and spinal cord, providing protection and support to the central nervous system. When the flow of cerebrospinal fluid is smooth and unrestricted, it can enhance the overall function of the nervous system, including the transmission of nerve impulses, regulation of body processes, and the body's ability to self-heal and self-regulate.

Furthermore, biodynamic craniosacral release can have a calming and regulating effect on the nervous system. The gentle touch and subtle manipulations used in this technique can activate the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for the body's rest and digest response. By promoting a state of deep relaxation and reducing the activation of the sympathetic nervous system (responsible for the fight-or-flight-or-freeze response), craniosacral biodynamic release can help alleviate stress, anxiety, and tension in the nervous system.

Overall, biodynamic craniosacral release aims to restore the natural balance and harmonious movement within the craniosacral system, which in turn positively influences the functioning of the nervous system. It can support the body's innate healing abilities, improve the regulation of bodily processes, and promote a sense of calm and well-being.
